Market Research for NASA SEWP V

NASA’s Program Office, announced that market research for Enterprise Wide Procurement will be conducted for SEWP V
SEWP V is a continuation of the established SEWP IV Contract.

SEWP V is expected to be a fixed-price, indefinite-delivery, multi-award Government Wide Acquisition Contract, for advanced IT product solutions, computers and related products.

Market research will be conducted between July 9 and July 23 with one-on-one interviews. NASA is looking for industry to provide feedback on new IT products and trends, cloud computing, supply chain management and the mitigation.

VA Lifts ban on Reverse Auction

Jan Frye deputy assistant secretary at VA’s Office of Acquisition and Logistics released a internal policy memo to lift the ban on reverse auction.  The memo lifts a moratorium on reverse auctions that was implemented approximately a month ago. The memorandum allows the VA to use reverse auctions to a more limited degree. The VA is also reviewing the impact that reverse auctions have on the VA’s supply chain.

In addition, Mr. Frye explained that the VA is attempting to redefine its relationships with industry suppliers and he expressed a sincere interest to improve the dialogue between government and industry. He hopes to establish a national help desk that will manage vendor inquiries, which would provide contractors with consistent information across VA acquisition programs. VA program offices will also conduct more spend analysis, program management, and industry outreach. Additionally, he forecasted that the VA will see growth in areas related to strategic sourcing.

DISA seeks single global network by 2020

On May 2nd    The Defense Information Systems Agency posted a Request for information on Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) Website for a new global network contract.

DISA in its request said, it plans to replace its current network transport contract with a single vehicle that will include Wi-Fi, Cellular, Satellite and broadband fiber optic. The plan is to develop a single wired and wireless global network by 2020 to include, voice, video and data.

 This contract will replace its $3billion Defense Information Systems Network Access Transport Services contract awarded in 2006 which is set to expire in 2016.

GSA praised for telework program

The General Services Administration may be in hot water with the rest of government, but in the field of telework, it’s enjoying praise as a trailblazer.

GSA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer received a Tele-Vision Award for innovative technology on Wednesday. Presented by the Telework Exchange at the Washington Convention Center, the award was in recognition of the office’s A3 (Any Device, Anywhere, Anytime) Strategy, which allows employees to telework using laptops, smartphones and tablets.

The Homeland Security and Agriculture departments also were honored with Tele-Vision Awards. DHS claimed the honor for Largest Leap in Telework. Its Enhanced Telework Program, employed in the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, had its pilot year in 2009. Three years later, all the office’s 143 employees telework with varying levels of frequency, and more than half work remotely at least 50 percent of the time.

USDA received the Excellence in Telework Leadership award for initiatives such as its weekly Let’s Talk Telework! webinars, while two Agriculture employees -- William Milton Jr. and Mika Cross -- received the Mid-Atlantic Telework Advisory Council Telework Driver Award for their efforts in developing and promoting their department’s telework program nationwide.

GSA Creates Social Media Registry For Federal Agencies

The General Services Administration has created a social media registry on which federal agencies can list their accounts on 22 social media platforms. The public can also use the registry to verify whether accounts are bona fide government accounts.

It's the latest step in Uncle Sam's evolving social media strategy, as agencies adopt policies in how they use social media to inform and engage the public. There are thousands of social media accounts in use by federal agencies, according to GSA. The registry is intended to establish public confidence that accounts bearing the names of federal agencies or officials are the real deal and not unaffiliated sites.

The social media platforms in GSA's registry include Blip, Disqus, Facebook, Flickr, Foursquare, Github, Google+, IdeaScale, LinkedIn, Livestream, Meetup, Myspace, Posterous, Sribd, Slideshare, Socrata, Tumblr, Twitter, Uservoice, Ustream, Vimeo, and Youtube.

The public is expected to have access to a social media verification tool within two weeks. Users will be able to enter the URL of a social media page and find out whether it's listed in the registry.
